Laura Kimpton’s Monumental Word Sculptures: LOVE @ the Venetian Hotel
Huffington Post, November 18, 2016. Laura Kimpton came to fame with her Monumental Word Sculptures at Burning Man Festivals, which attract hordes of “burners”- who climb inside her giant letters like a jungle-gym. Her LOVE sculpture was premiered at The Life is Beautiful Festival and purchased by The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, for the water atrium. Itis the hotel’s first foray into collecting contemporary art . Although “hotel art” is a pejorative term for facile, derivative, decorative art – not taken seriously in the established art world of top tier museums, galleries and art collectors – a few hotels, like the Venetian, are making a transition to collecting more established artists that attract a broader public for art appreciation.
